Fort Bragg

Two of the most special people in my life came to visit last week. We made a quick weekend trip to the coast and explored Fort Bragg. Here are some photos of our weekend on the ocean.
My grandparents at Glass Beach

There's just something so magical about the ocean.

Wave crashing on the rocks

We really got lucky with the weather. We left Penn Valley and it was raining and we drove the entire trip through rain, so naturally we figured we would be spending the weekend in our rain coats but it was blue sky and 70's. I love the clouds in this photo.

Family photo. I will forever laugh at the contrasts in this picture. Kaleb had been climbing rocks and was so hot he stripped down.

Glass on the beach. In the 40's they started dumping trash over the cliff near the beach. Now all the trash (mostly glass and ceramic pieces) have been tumbled and washed ashore. It was so fun the look for the "treasures."

Shown above:  green glass, fire glass, milk glass, amber and 2 ceramic pieces. (We stopped into the Glass Musuem and learned all about the different glass and history.)

Family photo attempt. :) it was worth a try.

Point Cabrillo Light House. The boys and Eric and I ran (downhill) a half mile to get there before closing. We had 15 minutes and made it in time. It also just so happened that they had opened it up so we could tour the top.

The light.

Taking in the view from the top!

Jaxon was pretty tuckered out on the walk back up the trail so he got a little help from daddy.

We had definitely worked up an appetite. We found a lovely restaurant on the warf called Silver's. Kaleb went with clam chowder, of course and Eric and I shared king salmon.

After dinner we went back to the beach to watch the sun set.

The next morning (my very favorite part) we went to Jughandle State Park. There's some sort of ecological phenomenon and that why it's a state park but besides the pgymy trees, which I didn't think was impressive at all, the views were amazing. Because we were there so early in the morning it was still misty and cool. The trail led us right along the coast (tight hand-holding with the boys)

Start of the trail, boys brought along their whales they bought at the lighthouse giftshop, Killie and Humpie. Very original names, aren't they?

Daddy and Jax.

This one is getting blown up and will be hanging on my wall.

Here you can see the sea mist. Love Kaleb and Grammie soaking in the view.

We had a few hours left before we had to drive home so we went back to Glass Beach, beach #2 which was a little more tricky to get to, and looked for more treasure. Kaleb found a big green piece.

Posing with my sweet Jaxon.

The rock climber.

Glass Beach is fun for all ages.

Brotherly love.

This trip and the memories made will forever be sealed in our hearts. Thanks for making the long drive to visit us Grandma and Grandpa.

Kaleb's beloved "Mammie" is beginning to show her age - a few big tears over the ribbon coming undone...mom is still trying to figure out how to fix it?

Okay, you can laugh if you want but I've hit my goal weight and can see my abs again....so the hard work does pay off and it feels GREAT to be in shape again!
